54 years ago, my Uncle Mike founded what would become Shapero & Green. His relentless dedication to his clients, combined with his legal brilliance and business acumen, made him the trusted attorney to generations of people in Cleveland and the surrounding areas. Known for showing up at clients’ birthday celebrations, milestone events, and even funerals, he made sure that every client knew they were just like family to him. The same was true for his employees, many of whom stayed with my uncle for countless years.

Two decades ago, with two young children of my own at home, my Uncle Mike asked me to quit my job at a traditional law firm and come work with him. Though much was unknown about how it would work out– if at all– one thing was certain: I could trust my uncle. The man who took me to my first baseball game, taught me how to play racquetball and to drink good scotch, was going to teach me how to become a better lawyer. 

We spent the last 20 years growing this firm together. Every day, he’d attempt to greet me in the office with a hug, and I never quite got used to simply calling him “Mike” during meetings. The passing of my uncle weighs heavily on the hearts of all of the extended Shapero & Green family, but the legacy he built with his wisdom and warmth will remain forever in the foundation of who we are.
